The market tour and cooking class was the highlight of our Venice trip for our whole family. Chef Michele's love and knowledge of Venetian food, culture, and history added so much richness to our whole trip—in and out of the class. We loved learning about the different produce and fish in the market. Michele was so good with our kids (8 and 11). They were completely engaged the whole time and loved hearing about the food and about life for kids in Venice. My son is a vegetarian and Michele was also very accommodating of his preference while also having a fish option for the rest of us. And when I left my notes at his apartment, he went above and beyond to make sure I got them. Finally, the meal we created was accessible and delicious. We are so eager to try to make it at home. Chef Michele was the perfect teacher and gave us the perfect experience. We feel so grateful.Hal T14/03/2024Cooking with Michele is a don’t-miss in Venice! Venice is an exciting city, with much to do and much to see. But, the time we spent cooking with Michele was the highlight of our visit! Our day started at the open market, which can be daunting, with many, many sellers of vegetables and fish and other items. But, Michele expertly guided us to those where he felt the produce was at its best, the fish at its finest, and the prices the most reasonable. He gave our group full decision-making for our lunch (our pranzo) that we would be eating, and clearly and calmly answered the overwhelming number questions we had as we decided. When we had finished our shopping, the menu was set: a first course of shrimp and asparagus, then risotto with peas (risi e bisi), then a main of fish with asparagus along with a side of tomatoes and fresh basil, all followed by a dolce of panna cotta with fresh strawberries. While we made all the decisions, Michele helped with great information about what was and was not in season. In telling us about the city, he included insights about his life, which added color to the walk that we took to get from the market to his apartment. And, what an apartment! The kitchen was airy and a great place to both cook and eat, and had an amazing view (from his balcony!) out to the city. The cooking itself was great fun! Although our group mostly diced, peeled, chopped, and watched, we enjoyed being part of the meal that we were preparing,. Michele’s explanations about what we were doing and why we were doing it (for example, when frying the garlic, he walked us through the reason that he added water to the pan) made the morning both enjoyable and educational. He occasionally even picked and added herbs from his balcony garden into the dishes we were preparing. As we (!) cooked, Michele shared stories about his history as a chef, as well as answering our many questions about life in Venice. So, even though the goal of the day was to cook and eat, we got unexpected insights into what it’s like to live in Venice…a bonus! The food was wonderful, and as every dish came out, we marveled at how great it tasted and how we could not possibly eat another bite of it (or what was to follow). And, yet, we persevered. Our time with Michele ended too quickly, but when we left his amazing apartment in a great old Venetian building, we were content, full, and delighted that we had met Michele. Next time we are in Venice, having another cooking session with Michele will be a priority!Marc K01/01/2024Fantastic cooking experience in Venice with chef Michele The cooking class was the highlight of our trip to Venice. Not only due to the high quality of food that we cooked, the lovely market visit and the little tour through Venice, but mostly because of the great teaching, cooking and hospitality skills of Michele the Chef. Chef Michele’s class was the highlight of our week in Venice! If we could give it 10 stars, we would. We started with a fun, informative, and rainy walk around the market. Then walked back to his home, where he welcomed us into his beautiful kitchen. We were treated like family. We learned to make AT LEAST 6 different cicchetti, and they were amazing. He also gave us some wonderful tips… the kind only an experienced chef can give. His enthusiasm and love for what he does is infectious. My 2 granddaughters first visit to Venice (and Italy) and we all were completely thrilled with Chef Michele’s lesson. We asked to make pizzas and gelato and he even showed us a wonderful way to make bruschetta. SO MANY TIPS and that’s what I was hoping for. We learned so much and I can’t wait to get home to start making tons of pizza (my neighbors will love it!). Chef Michele is so warm and encouraging and a great teacher. We highly recommend the market experience, where Michele explained the history of the city's markets, and we collectively chose the four-course meal. The cooking experience was a perfect blend of hands-on, but controlled by Michele to ensure it was a top-notch meal. He is welcoming and knowledgeable, and took the time to explain the dishes, their history, and why his techniques. The experience was worth every penny, and our only regret is the class was the last day in Venice, not the first! He made for a great local guide. Our family of four was treated to not just a cooking class, but a true cultural experience. Chef met us in the square to walk us back to his beautiful apartment and kitchen. As we walked, he shared history of the area and Italian culture. The apartment and kitchen are modern and beautiful, rich with history. We were hands-on with the experience of prepping and cooking the food, led by Chef, culminating in an incredible midday meal with Prosecco and wine.
